Scores reflect what each seller published to buyers as of 2026-07-21. Purchase-and-assay verification is in progress — see what that means.

How we research

Every brand is assessed against the same published rubric on how we test. We record what a seller publishes to a prospective buyer before payment: the certificate of analysis and what it actually contains, origin claims below country level, price normalised per gram, delivery and guarantee terms, review volume and distribution, and any health claims. Where a claim cannot be checked, it earns no points — an unverifiable claim and no claim score the same.

Sourcing and citation

Factual claims about a brand come from that brand’s own public pages, and each review lists the pages we checked and the date. Where we quote a document, we quote it exactly and link to the original. We would rather publish a narrower claim we can evidence than a broader one we cannot.

How this site is funded

Compare Mad Honey is published by the Honey Hunter Association. The Association holds a commercial contract with Magaranger, which is one of the eight brands scored here and the one that finishes first. That is the site’s funding, and it is a material connection we state on every page rather than in a footnote.

We hold no affiliate relationship with any of the other seven brands, and no brand — Magaranger included — can buy inclusion, position or a score change. The single commercial outbound link on the site is to Magaranger and is marked rel="sponsored". If the contract ended tomorrow the rubric and the scores would be unchanged, because the rubric was fixed and published before any brand was scored.

Handling the conflict of interest

The contract with the top-scoring brand is a real conflict and we treat it as one. Four mechanisms, all checkable by you: the rubric was fixed and published before any scoring took place; every review shows its per-criterion arithmetic so you can recompute or re-weight the total yourself; the three categories Magaranger loses — value, service and reputation — are stated on the homepage rather than buried; and Magaranger’s own weaknesses, including the gaps in its certificate of analysis, are published in full on its review page.

Claims we will not make

We do not publish therapeutic claims for mad honey, and we mark brands down when they do. Mad honey is a food containing an active compound, not a treatment for anything. We also do not publish comparative claims about a competitor that we cannot evidence from their own published material.

Updating and freshness

Every page carries a visible last-updated date. Scores are reviewed quarterly and immediately whenever a brand publishes new documentation or changes something material. When a score changes we say what changed and why.

Corrections

If you believe something here is wrong — especially if you represent a brand and have documentation we could not find — email editor@comparemadhoney.com. We investigate, correct factual errors promptly, and note the change and its date on the affected page. Published documentation changes scores; that is the point of having a rubric.

Use of AI in production

Research, drafting and data analysis for this site are assisted by AI tools. Every factual claim, score and figure is checked against a primary source by a human before publication, and the methodology and data files are open for inspection.
