About Compare Mad Honey
Compare Mad Honey is published by the Honey Hunter Association, a separate organisation from any brand listed here. The Association holds a commercial contract with Magaranger, which finishes first in our ranking. We publish that on every page rather than in a footnote, because you should judge the scores knowing who wrote them and who pays for the work.
How this site is structured
Two separate things, stated plainly so you can weigh them:
- The Honey Hunter Association publishes this site. It commissions the research, applies the rubric, and controls what appears here.
- Magaranger is one of the eight brands scored, and it holds a
commercial contract with the Association. It is also the brand that scores highest, and
the only one we link to commercially. Those links are marked
rel="sponsored".
That is a material connection and we are not going to bury it. What we can do is make it checkable: the rubric was fixed and published before scoring, every review shows its per-criterion arithmetic so you can re-weight it yourself, and the three categories Magaranger loses are stated on the homepage rather than hidden in the copy.
Why this site exists
Mad honey is sold online almost entirely on storytelling. Very few sellers publish a measured grayanotoxin figure for the jar you receive, and buyers have no straightforward way to compare what they are actually paying for. We built a rubric, applied it to every brand we could buy, and published both the rubric and the results.
How we stay honest about the conflict
- The rubric is published first. The weights in our methodology were fixed before scoring and are applied to every brand identically, including ours.
- We publish our losses. Sherpa Honey beats us on value; Real Mad Honey beats us on service. Those are stated on the homepage table, not buried.
- We show the arithmetic. Every review lists the per-criterion score, so you can recompute the total or re-weight it yourself.
- One outbound commercial link. We link to Magaranger, marked as sponsored, under the contract described above. We take nothing from the other seven brands and hold no affiliate relationship with any of them — which is also why there is no buy link on their reviews.
Editorial standards
- No medical claims. Mad honey is a food containing an active compound; it is not a treatment for anything, and we mark brands down for implying otherwise.
- Adults only, with dosing caution stated wherever consumption is discussed.
- Sources cited where a factual claim needs one, and corrections published with dates.
- A visible last-updated date on every page, refreshed at least quarterly.

If you represent a brand listed here and believe a score is wrong — particularly if you have documentation we could not find — send it to editor@comparemadhoney.com. Published documentation changes scores. That is the entire point of the rubric.
